This Mansion Makes JRE's look like a NC Cottage

The late Aaron Spelling built a 56,000 sq ft mansion in 1991. It's bigger than the building I work in. His wife has it on the market for a cool $150 mil, according to the latest AP/Yahoo news. It even has a gift wrapping room and it's bordering the LA Country Club.

JRE and EE caught so much flack about their house. But I guess one is not allowed to be wealthy and still care about the issue of poverty.

Never understood why so many got their pantalones in a bunch about JRE's estate, considering he doesn't take many vacations and he is a homebody at heart, just as EE is.

Not True, Boston Phoenix

Oliver Willis tipped his readers off to the Boston Phoenix's Unsexiness Men of the Year. Most of the choices are either based on looks or some kind of indiscretion. That said, some of the choices I disagree with:

John Mayer
Hugh Jackman

and at #20.

The higher the rank, the worse the BP thinks the man is.

JRE's indiscretion doesn't merit being in the top 20 with Rush Limbaugh, who says mean things about Elizabeth Edwards and can't stay married.

Bet none of the Phoenix eds have ran 5 marathons:

John Edwards's five marathons

1982 Marine Corps (3:37:16)
1983 Marine Corps (3:30:18)
1986 Philadelphia (N/A)
1994 Camp Lejeune (4:05:56)
1999 Marine Corps (4:51:27)

Here's a recent pic of him at Brown University. One cannot tell me that he doesn't look sexy.

Pooh on those who are envious of JRE's looks--and oratory abilities. He got a standing O at that speech two weeks ago.

Elizabeth Edwards and Lance Armstrong Back New Health Legislation

Senators Ted Kennedy and Kay Bailey Hutchinson introduced legislation today entitled, the the 21st Century Cancer Access to Life-Saving Early detection, Research and Treatment (ALERT) Act.

According to the News-Observer:

The Kennedy/Hutchison bill would try to foster better research by linking various organizations and national cancer registries and by boosting funding. It would increase the focus on rare cancers with low survival rates, and would establish a state grant program for colorectal cancers.

The bill also would provide expanded access to clinical trials and set up a new biomarker program for early detection.

Elizabeth said:

"We know how to lengthen and improve the lives of people with cancer, but we've chosen as a nation to turn our backs on some of us who have the disease,” said Elizabeth Edwards. “I urge the United States Senate to embrace the ALERT Act and get it to the President's desk as soon as possible."

Armstrong's comment:

“In 2010, cancer is expected to be the leading cause of death worldwide. Every American is touched by this disease,” said Lance Armstrong, chairman and founder of the Lance Armstrong Foundation. “The 21st Century Cancer ALERT Act and its authors’ leadership in reforming our nation’s approach to the war on cancer are a very welcome step forward to every member of the LIVESTRONG movement.”

Both quotes are from Ted Kennedy's press release, here.

Many thanks to the senators for getting this bill out there. I hope they do act on it soon.

Hat-tip to Elizabeth Edwards News and to Kali Star at the Mother Earth Health blog. I'll be adding EE News to BW's blogroll.

Leader of the Band...My Momma

And I am the legacy to her..

It's about any parent who did her/his band to lead us to be our best. This is my mom, and the Late Dan Fogelberg got this so down about any parent, albeit it was about his dad. I loved Dan, and I appreciated his music so much. This describes my momma more, and I believe he would have appreciated my momma too.

Hey Paul Krugman (a song)

This song by the Rock Cookie Bottom speaks for me. Hey Paul Krugman, we need you in the WH. And we also need Joe Stiglitz, Jamie Galbraith, and Atrios.
